Passenger Dies on Kenya Airways Flight to Lagos After Disturbance

A passenger traveling on a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos died shortly before the plane landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport. This incident occurred on Tuesday night, and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

According to Kenya Airways, the medical emergency happened around 9:20 PM, just 20 minutes before landing. The airline stated that the passenger became unresponsive during the flight. Flight crew members quickly provided first aid and followed emergency procedures.

Upon landing at 9:41 PM, medical personnel met the aircraft but confirmed that the passenger had already passed away. The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Michael Achimugu, mentioned that the passenger had been picked up from Madagascar after being denied entry there.

During the flight, the passenger reportedly became restless and aggressive, attempting to access the cockpit and later trying to open a rear door. To ensure safety, crew members tied the passenger’s hands behind his back. Achimugu explained that the passenger was declared dead upon arrival in Nigeria.

Kenya Airways expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and stated that they are cooperating with local authorities and aviation regulators. The police have begun their investigation, taking statements from the flight attendants and the captain.

The deceased’s family may request an autopsy as the investigation continues. The police confirmed that the body has been taken to a morgue for further examination.
