PDP Blasts Senator Oshiomhole for Distributing Grinding Machines Despite Past Condemnation of ‘Petty’ Projects
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, has come under intense fire from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for distributing items like grinding machines, motorbikes, sewing machines, and cash gifts as constituency palliatives. A PDP leader in Edo State, Segun Saiki, publicly criticized the former Governor’s action, labeling it a profound act of hypocrisy.
Oshiomhole, who was a staunch critic of lawmakers distributing what he termed “petty” items as empowerment tools before his election to the Senate, shared the items over the weekend in his hometown of Iyamho.
Saiki wasted no time in faulting the initiative, describing it as Oshiomhole “swallowing what he had vomited.”
“Oshiomhole swallowed what he had vomited by doling out grinding machines, motorbikes, sewing machines, and N100,000 as a constituency project,” Saiki stated. “It’s like someone vomiting and swallowing it back. Which constituency project is he doing after two years in the Senate? What can anybody buy with N100,000 in today’s economy?”
The PDP chieftain recalled that Oshiomhole had vowed, before his election, to “restructure the idea of constituency projects,” having openly condemned the practice as “offensive” and one that “destroys” young people’s future.
In a defensive response, Victor Oshioke, the Senator’s media aide, maintained that Oshiomhole’s intention remains focused on long-term impact. Oshioke argued that the Senator’s overall commitment includes more substantial projects, citing the construction of classroom blocks and market stores. He added that Oshiomhole meant that a senator’s performance “should not be judged by sharing items but by enduring legacies and jobs created.”
