Presidency Explains Tinubu’s Three-Week European Break Ahead of Grueling 2027 Campaign Season

The Presidency has shed light on the reasons behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s departure on a three-week vacation to Europe, describing the trip as a necessary break to allow him to rest and recharge following months of intense national administration.

The clarification came shortly after the President departed Abuja, with London, United Kingdom, designated as his initial stop for the three-week annual leave.

Addressing journalists at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, stated that the break is well deserved given the heavy executive workload the President has shouldered. He explained that over the past six to seven months, the administration has taken far-reaching, consequential decisions regarding national security architecture, economic restructuring, and overall governance.

Dare pointed out that the timing of the annual leave is strategically situated ahead of the newly opened electioneering cycle. With the country moving into several months of demanding nationwide political campaigns for the 2027 general elections, the presidential aide noted that taking time out to “refuel” will ensure the President is physically and mentally primed for the rigorous schedule ahead.

Addressing questions regarding executive oversight during the trip, the presidential aide reassured the public that governance will continue without interruption. He emphasized that the President is on a working vacation and will maintain daily command over government operations, receiving routine briefings from service chiefs, cabinet members, and key agency heads.

Reiterating the administration’s position, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, affirmed that President Tinubu will use the leave for reflection and policy evaluation before returning to the country to lead administrative and political activities.
