President Tinubu Hails EFCC for Securing 7,000 Convictions and Recovering Over N500 Billion in Two Years

President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for what he described as a monumental success in the anti-graft war, revealing that the agency secured over 7,000 convictions and recovered assets in excess of ₦500 billion during the first two years of his administration.

The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, made the disclosure on Monday while declaring open the 7th EFCC-NJI Capacity Building Workshop for Justices and Judges in Abuja. He emphasized that the record-breaking performance is a direct result of his administration’s policy of non-interference, which has allowed anti-graft agencies the independence required to execute their statutory mandates effectively.

“The EFCC, for example, has recorded over 7,000 convictions in the first two years of the present administration and recovered assets in excess of ₦500 billion,” President Tinubu was quoted as saying in a statement by the EFCC spokesman.

He further highlighted the administration’s strategic use of the recovered funds, stating that the proceeds of crime are being ploughed back into the economy to finance critical social investment programs. Specifically, these funds are being used to support the recently introduced Students Loan and the Consumer Credit schemes, aiming to provide direct benefit to Nigerian citizens.

The President further addressed the judiciary, calling on judges to strengthen the integrity of the judicial system. He acknowledged that courts and judges are strong pillars of the anti-corruption process and urged them to exercise greater circumspection in their rulings, particularly in high-profile corruption cases that often evoke public consternation over perceived slow justice delivery.
