President Tinubu Swears In Taiwo Oyedele as New Finance Minister; Tasks Him to Fix Economy and Boost Revenue

Nigeria’s plan to fix its economy got a big boost today as President Bola Tinubu officially added a top expert to his team. On Monday afternoon, March 16, 2026, Taiwo Oyedele took his oath of office to become the Minister of State for Finance.

Mr. Oyedele is not a stranger to the government’s plans. For the past two years, he has been leading the “Tax Reform” team that helped simplify how Nigerians pay taxes. President Tinubu praised him today, saying that Oyedele’s hard work and knowledge are exactly what the country needs during this difficult economic time. “It is a good day for Nigeria,” the President said during the ceremony.

In his new role, the 50-year-old minister will work closely with the main Minister of Finance, Wale Edun. His main job will be to make sure the government has enough money to fund projects like schools and roads without putting too much debt on the country.

Mr. Oyedele told reporters that he is ready for the challenge. He explained that his focus will be on “efficient spending” and making sure that government policies actually help the pockets of everyday Nigerians. With his long experience in the private sector and his recent work on tax laws, many hope his arrival will bring the “Renewed Hope” the country has been waiting for.
