Real Madrid’s New Star Diomande Shines in Recent Matches

Real Madrid made headlines this summer when they paid a club-record 140 million euros (about $157 million) to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig. The team saw great potential in the 19-year-old, especially after his impressive showing at the 2026 World Cup. Recently, Diomande has begun to showcase his talent, scoring a stunning goal against Sevilla in La Liga.

Diomande’s signing was part of President Florentino Perez’s plan to bring in new stars after two seasons without major trophies. He had a standout season with Leipzig, following his rise at Spanish club Leganes. However, his arrival has added to the competition in Madrid’s attack, where players like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior already play.

Despite the challenges, Diomande is starting to find his place in the team. He scored his first goal for Real Madrid on October 10, helping secure a 1-0 win against Villarreal. His performance against Sevilla was particularly notable, as he not only scored but also assisted another goal, marking his best game yet for the club.

Coach Jose Mourinho acknowledged that Diomande still has room for improvement but praised his growth. Diomande has recorded two goals and three assists in 11 matches across all competitions. Mourinho compared his progress to that of Vinicius, who also faced challenges early in his career.

Diomande’s journey has not been easy. He faced rejection after moving from Ivory Coast to the United States for school and struggled to find a place in Major League Soccer. His career took off after a successful stint in Germany, where he was named the rookie of the year in the Bundesliga.

In an open letter, Diomande shared that he is motivated by the memory of his late sister, who believed in his potential. As he continues to develop at Real Madrid, he aims to prove her faith in him was well-placed. Diomande will look to build on his recent success when Real Madrid faces Leipzig again in the Champions League.
