Speaker Tajudeen and Ooni of Ife Mourn the Passing of Pa Reuben Fasoranti

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, are mourning the death of Pa Reuben Fasoranti. They describe his passing as a significant loss for both the Yoruba nation and Nigeria.

Pa Fasoranti, who passed away on October 20, 2026, at the age of 100, was a respected elder statesman. His work in Nigeria’s political landscape and his efforts to preserve Yoruba culture spanned many decades. In a statement released on Wednesday, Speaker Tajudeen highlighted Fasoranti’s loyalty to the ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a key figure in Nigeria’s history.

Tajudeen noted that Fasoranti guided Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political group, through difficult times while remaining true to his beliefs. He recognized Fasoranti as one of the few leaders who experienced Nigeria’s history from colonial times through military rule to the return of democracy.

The Ooni of Ife also shared his condolences, calling Fasoranti’s death a major loss for the Yoruba people. In a statement from the Ooni’s palace, he praised Fasoranti for his wisdom, integrity, and commitment to serving his community. The Ooni emphasized that Fasoranti’s life was marked by his dedication to justice and good governance.

Both leaders extended their sympathies to Fasoranti’s family and the Afenifere organization. Tajudeen also expressed condolences to the people of Ondo State and the Yoruba community. They prayed for peace for Fasoranti’s soul and offered strength and comfort to his family and friends.
