Spotify Expands Audiobook Access to Over 180 Markets by 2026

Streaming service Spotify announced on Wednesday that it will expand its audiobook service to over 180 markets by the end of 2026. This is a significant increase from the 22 markets where it is currently available.

The company shared this news at the Frankfurt Book Fair, noting that the number of people listening to audiobooks on its platform has jumped by about 40 percent in the past year. Additionally, the total listening hours have increased by more than 30 percent.

Spotify will offer users access to over 350,000 audiobook titles in more than 120 languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Polish. The company is also improving its Page Match feature, which allows users to easily switch between print or digital books and their audio versions. By scanning a book’s ISBN code, users can track their listening progress based on the page number.

This feature, launched in February, has already attracted over one million users. Spotify first identified audiobooks as a key growth area in June 2022 and launched its audiobook service in the United States shortly afterward, offering around 300,000 titles for purchase.

Currently, Spotify claims to have more than 800,000 audiobooks from nearly 300 publishers and over 50,000 authors. The growing interest in audiobooks is also reflected in recent trends, such as a significant increase in daily listening hours for certain titles following related film releases.
