Super Falcons Electrify Lagos with WAFCON Trophy Parade

Nigeria’s triumphant Super Falcons brought the city of Lagos to a standstill on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, as they paraded their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy through major streets on Lagos Island. The celebratory tour allowed the queens of African football to share their victory with jubilant fans following their remarkable triumph in Morocco.

The team, still basking in the euphoria of presidential honours and significant cash rewards, arrived in Lagos on Wednesday afternoon. Their open-top bus parade kicked off from Costain, traversing iconic landmarks including Eko Bridge, Apogbon, Obalende, Ikoyi Road, and Victoria Island, before culminating around the Eko Hotel. Along the route, thousands of enthusiastic fans, waving flags and chanting praises, lined the streets to catch a glimpse of their heroines.

The Super Falcons clinched their record-extending 10th WAFCON title just last Saturday, July 26, 2025, in a dramatic final against hosts Morocco. Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Nigerian side staged a stunning comeback with second-half goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini, securing a 3-2 victory in Rabat.

This Lagos parade follows a grand reception held on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Abuja, where President Bola Tinubu hosted the victorious team. During the presidential honour, each of the 24 players and 11 technical crew members were conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). President Tinubu also awarded each player a cash sum equivalent to $100,000 (and $50,000 for technical staff) and a three-bedroom apartment under the government’s Renewed Hope Housing Scheme. Furthermore, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) announced an additional N10 million donation for each player and technical team member.

The Super Falcons also dominated the individual awards at the tournament, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade crowned Player of the Tournament, Chiamaka Nnadozie named Best Goalkeeper, and head coach Justine Madugu receiving the Best Coach award. Their formidable performance throughout the tournament, including a flawless group stage and dominant knockout wins, cemented their status as continental giants.
