Three Security Officers Collapse Due to Extreme Heat During Governor Soludo’s Second Term Inauguration in Awka

The second-term inauguration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in Anambra State was a day of celebration, but it was also a day of intense heat that proved too much for some of the men and women in uniform. On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, three security operatives slumped at different times during the official parade at Alex Ekwueme Square.

The first to collapse was a male police officer during the early part of the parade. He was followed later by a male DSS officer who slumped right in front of the main podium. Towards the end of the event, a female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) also fainted. Medical teams rushed to help them, with the police officer being taken to the hospital in an ambulance for more treatment because he remained unstable after waking up.

Witnesses said the sun was “unusually hot” today, and the officers had been standing perfectly still for hours as part of the guard of honor. Despite the drama, the ceremony continued, and Governor Soludo took his oath of office around 11:05 am, promising to work even harder for the people of Anambra.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and former Presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan were all present to watch the “Solution” Governor begin his second journey. The Governor thanked the security forces for their hard work in making the state safer, even as his team made sure the collapsed officers were getting the best medical care.
