Three Students Arrested in Ogun for Suspected Cult Initiation
The Ogun State Police have arrested three secondary school students in Owode-Yewa over a suspected cult initiation. The police recovered several weapons during the operation, including an axe, knives, and a toy gun.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the arrests were made following a tip-off about a planned cult event called “Kito Day.” This event was reportedly set to involve students from various secondary schools in the area.
The police acted on the information received on October 22, leading to a swift response from the Divisional Police Officer in Owode-Yewa. Detectives worked alongside the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to carry out the operation.
During the operation, police arrested the three suspects, who are aged 12 and 18, and seized items including a school bag. The case will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation and possible legal action.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about young people’s involvement in cult activities. It emphasizes the need for collaboration among security agencies, schools, parents, and communities to prevent the recruitment of students into criminal groups.
