Tinubu’s Aide Points Out Issues in US Midterm Elections Compared to Nigeria’s Process
Tope Ajayi, an aide to President Bola Tinubu, has raised concerns about technical issues and logistical challenges during the recent American midterm elections. He made these comments in a post on X, highlighting how these problems were viewed differently in the US compared to Nigeria.
Ajayi noted that despite the reported glitches, such as ballot scanner issues in New York and equipment failures in Broward County, Florida, US political commentators did not dismiss the electoral process. He contrasted this with how elections in Nigeria are often criticized.
He pointed out specific examples of problems, including a polling station in Kansas that received only 100 paper ballots instead of the expected 100,000. Additionally, he mentioned that 250,000 ballots would need to be counted manually due to issues with voting machines.
Ajayi’s remarks come as Nigeria continues to face scrutiny over its own electoral process, particularly following the 2023 presidential election, which faced criticism from opposition parties and observers for various technical and logistical issues.
