Governor AbdulRazaq Approves Direct Cash Payment for Promoted Kwara Teachers, Wiping Out 10 Years of Promotion Arrears

Teachers and administrative workers across Kwara State are set for an immediate financial upgrade following Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s directive to fully fund and cash-back the 2025 promotion cycle for all eligible academic and non-academic staff.

The executive clearance breathes real financial life into the recent promotion exercises managed by the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM). By ensuring that these rank advancements are backed by real-time budget allocations, the state government is moving away from the old administrative habit of issuing empty promotion letters without the accompanying salary increments, ensuring workers get paid exactly what their new ranks dictate.

According to an official statement issued from Ilorin by the Press Secretary of the commission, Bola Onile, the policy action is part of a deliberate agenda to prioritize the living standards, operational motivation, and career satisfaction of public service workers—specifically those tasked with managing the state’s classroom foundations.

The news has been met with widespread celebration across school staff rooms in the state. Reacting to the development, the Executive Chairman of TESCOM, Bello Abubakar, expressed deep gratitude to the governor, framing the continuous cash-backing approvals as proof of the administration’s respect for the teaching profession.

Abubakar pointed out that the current administration’s record on workers’ welfare is unique when compared to past governance cycles. When the current leadership originally took the reins of power, the state’s educational civil service was heavily bogged down by a multi-year backlog of unapproved and unpaid promotion arrears dating from 2015 all the way to 2020.

“When His Excellency came into office, there were deep backlogs of unapproved promotion arrears left behind by previous administrations,” TESCOM Chairman Bello Abubakar explained while addressing education stakeholders. “He didn’t just ignore them; he systematically approved the conduct of those outstanding promotion exercises and went a step further to provide the full financial cash backing. By successfully funding the pipeline from 2015 up to the 2025 cycle, he stands out as the only governor in our state’s history to clear a decade’s worth of promotion commitments for our personnel.”

With the administrative directives now securely signed off, TESCOM’s technical and accounts teams are working behind the scenes to update the payroll architecture. School principals and regional directors have been urged to ensure that all internal documentation for the affected staff members is completely up to date to prevent any technical delays when the updated salary structures roll out. By matching administrative advancements with immediate wallet reflections, the state is setting a solid benchmark for civil service stability, ensuring that those in the classrooms can focus entirely on delivering quality education without financial anxiety.
