Vice President Vance Declines to Watch Livestream of Nidal Hasan’s Execution

US Vice President JD Vance announced he will not watch the planned livestream of Nidal Hasan’s execution. Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, was convicted of killing 13 people during a shooting at Fort Hood military base in Texas in 2009.

Vance made his comments while campaigning in Ohio on October 9, 2026. He expressed doubt about whether the livestream would actually take place, saying, “I don’t know that that’s actually going to happen.” If it does happen, he confirmed he would not be watching.

President Donald Trump mentioned that Hasan would be executed by firing squad, but he did not address the livestream plan put forth by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The execution has sparked criticism from some Republican lawmakers. Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina called the livestream proposal “beyond disgusting,” stating that public executions are actions taken by oppressive regimes, not by the United States.

Nidal Hasan’s execution is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood. If carried out by firing squad, he would be the first person executed in this manner by the US military since 1945.
