Bayern Munich’s Vincent Kompany Expected to Be Out for Weeks After Hospital Incident

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is expected to be away from the team for several weeks after collapsing while watching a training session for the club’s reserve team. The club confirmed that the 40-year-old Belgian needed medical attention and is undergoing detailed examinations in the hospital.

Sporting director Max Eberl announced on Saturday that the coaching staff will manage training and match activities until Kompany is well enough to return. Eberl emphasized that the club will not rush Kompany back, stating, “Vinnie will get all the time he needs. We’re not going to start setting up any timelines.” He added that the recovery period would be measured in weeks rather than days.

Reports indicate that Kompany had been experiencing health issues prior to his collapse. He missed a training session and a press conference leading up to Bayern’s UEFA Champions League match against Arsenal, but he was present for the game, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

His absence will impact Bayern’s preparations for their Bundesliga match against Freiburg on Sunday, with assistant coach Aaron Danks expected to lead the team in his place. Eberl expressed confidence in the coaching staff, saying there are no plans to make changes during Kompany’s recovery.

The exact cause of Kompany’s collapse has not been publicly confirmed, and the club is awaiting the results of his medical examinations before making any statements.

Kompany joined Bayern in 2024 after coaching Burnley and led the team to the Bundesliga title in his first season. His contract was extended in October 2025 until June 2029.
