ADC-PCC Criticizes Tinubu’s Electricity Promise, Calls for Accountability

The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu for not delivering on his promise regarding electricity. The council responded to comments from the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, stating that any attempt to explain Tinubu’s pledge is an effort to change what he originally committed to.

Kola Ologbondiyan, the ADC-PCC’s Director of Media and Publicity, highlighted that Tinubu had clearly stated that Nigerians should not vote for him again if he did not improve electricity supply. The council emphasized that this promise is still fresh in the minds of the public.

According to the ADC-PCC, instead of reducing estimated billing, the current administration has increased electricity costs, making it harder for families to pay for power. Many businesses, including hotels, are now forced to limit electricity use during the day to save money.

The council also criticized the new electricity tariff system, which classifies consumers into different bands. They argue that people are paying more but still not receiving reliable electricity. More than three years after Tinubu’s promise, Nigerians continue to experience frequent power outages and failures in the national electricity grid.

The ADC-PCC questioned the effectiveness of the Presidential Metering Initiative, stating that it has not met expectations. They pointed out that electricity distribution companies still impose estimated bills on consumers.

Furthermore, the council argued that the APC’s defense of its record by citing the Electricity Act and bond programs does not solve the main issue: whether people have access to reliable and affordable electricity. They stressed that what Nigerians need is actual electricity, not just explanations.

The ADC-PCC concluded by urging the APC to address the electricity issue directly, rather than trying to downplay the promises made by Tinubu. They noted that the upcoming election on January 16, 2027, will give Nigerians a chance to evaluate the government’s performance against its commitments.
