Atiku Abubakar Launches Presidential Campaign in Sokoto, Promises to Address Insecurity

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), launched his campaign in Sokoto on November 4, 2026. He emphasized his commitment to tackling insecurity in Nigeria, stating that nothing would stop his party’s activities as they prepare for the 2027 general election.

During the event, Atiku urged Nigerians to support the ADC and vote for the party in the upcoming election. His remarks followed accusations that the Sokoto State Government and security forces were attempting to disrupt his campaign. He claimed that the Department of State Services (DSS) was allegedly recruiting protesters to create disturbances.

Atiku also accused the state government of restricting the ADC’s access to public facilities and logistical support for the rally. He described these actions as deliberate attempts to hinder the opposition party. In response, the DSS announced it would investigate Atiku’s claims, although it stated that its operations did not align with his allegations.

Despite the controversy, Atiku proceeded with the campaign kickoff, asserting that no efforts to undermine the ADC would prevent it from reaching out to the people of Sokoto. He explained that Sokoto was chosen for the launch due to its historical importance and reputation for peace.

Atiku reiterated his previous campaign promises, particularly his commitment to restoring security if elected president. He called on citizens to participate in the elections and expressed confidence in the ADC’s mission.
