NUJ to Celebrate Nigeria’s Media Icons at Special Ceremony in Abuja
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is set to honor distinguished media professionals for their significant contributions to journalism at the 2026 Milestone Recognition of Media Icons in Nigeria. This event will take place on November 7, 2026, at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, will be the Special Guest of Honour and will deliver the keynote address. The theme for this year’s ceremony is “Strengthening Democracy Through Responsible Journalism and Good Governance.”
Among those being recognized is Kingsley Uranta, General Manager of Channels Television Academy. Otunba Gbenga Onayiga, the Chairman of the National Organising Committee, stated that the event aims to celebrate journalists who have made significant impacts in the industry.
Onayiga emphasized that this recognition is different from regular awards. He noted it is a way for the NUJ to appreciate journalists for their dedication and sacrifices while they are still alive. He praised the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, for maintaining this initiative.
Other recipients of the recognition include prominent figures such as Chief Eric Teniola, Mallam Yusuf Nuhu, and Olusegun Adeniyi, among others. The event will gather various media professionals and communication experts to celebrate the achievements of these journalists.
