Amaechi Dumps APC, Declares Nigeria “Completely Destroyed” Under Current Leadership

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has sensationally resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that Nigeria is “completely destroyed” and in dire need of a total overhaul. Amaechi made the bombshell announcement on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, during the unveiling of the interim executive of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja, confirming his defection to the opposition party.

Amaechi revealed that his decision to quit the APC was finalized on Tuesday night, July 1, 2025, expressing surprise that he had not already been expelled from the party despite his prolonged disengagement. “I left APC last night. I never attended one meeting; the last time they invited me, I warned them. I even wrote to them not to invite me again,” Amaechi stated. He added pointedly, “You can’t be in a club where the majority of people are stealing and you don’t say anything.”

In a scathing assessment of the nation’s current state, Amaechi lambasted the economic hardship facing Nigerians. “Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat. People can’t buy food. There’s no money to buy food. Everything is gone. Inflation is at its peak,” he asserted.

The former governor also launched a direct attack on the incumbent administration, alleging that President Bola Tinubu lacks the capacity to govern the country. “I have never believed that Tinubu is a material to govern the country,” he stated, further accusing the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding to “hijack the 2027 elections” while ignoring the dire economic realities.

Amaechi’s move to the ADC places him within a newly formed opposition coalition that aims to unseat President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that the coalition’s objective extends beyond merely changing government, but rather focuses on a fundamental transformation of Nigeria. “It’s not about changing the government… it’s about changing Nigeria,” he stressed, calling for the coalition to evolve into a movement that empowers Nigerians to take charge of their own governance.

His defection follows that of other high-profile political figures, including former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, who also recently left the APC to join the ADC. Senator David Mark, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was notably unveiled as the interim national chairman of the ADC at the same event, signaling a significant realignment of political forces ahead of the next election cycle.
