Adeleke Taunts Osun APC, Claims Rivals Are Terrified of Accord’s Massive Grassroots Growth
With the high-stakes August 15 governorship election rapidly approaching, the political battlefield in Osun State has reached a boiling point. Governor Ademola Adeleke has openly mocked the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that the opposition is running scared as his new platform, the Accord Party, establishes total dominance across the state.
The fiery rhetoric follows a series of tense exchanges between the state’s major political camps. Adeleke, who shook up the political landscape by adopting the Accord Party as his vehicle for re-election, stated that his rivals have completely run out of ideas and are now resorting to desperate panic measures to claw back relevance.
According to government officials, the opposition’s anxiety is rooted in Accord’s massive momentum at the grassroots level. The party has recently racked up critical endorsements from powerful local voting blocs, including the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and various public sector labor unions, who praise Adeleke for heavily prioritizing worker welfare and aggressive infrastructure updates.
Unfortunately, this fierce rivalry has spilled beyond simple political debates. Tensions took a dangerous turn following the targeted shooting of Hon. Asimiyu Ajibola, the Accord Party Chairman for the Osogbo Local Government Area, who was attacked by gunmen and left in critical condition. In the wake of the violence, the Adeleke administration fiercely rejected opposition claims that the government was stoking instability, pushing the blame squarely back on the APC.
“The opposition is simply scared of the consequences of their anti-human legacy,” a statement from the governor’s communications team noted. “They are raising false alarms and attempting to create chaos because they know they cannot face the electorate cleanly.”
With the definitive ballot just weeks away, Adeleke has urged the people of Osun to ignore the scare tactics and remain focused on progress. Labeling his administration’s developmental agenda as heavily protected by public goodwill, the governor maintained that the Accord Party is entirely focused on a peaceful, lawful campaign, confident that voters will deliver a final, crushing defeat to the APC at the polls.
