APC Confident of Winning 2027 Elections with 86% Success Rate Since 2023

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is optimistic about its chances in the 2027 general election. The party claims to have won about 86% of elections held since the 2023 general election, according to Senator Ajibola Basiru, the party’s National Secretary.

Basiru spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today, stating that the APC’s electoral success places it in a strong position for the next presidential election. He acknowledged that while the party has lost some seats in various elections, its overall performance shows its strength. He highlighted victories in Imo, Kogi, and Ekiti states, as well as successes in National Assembly by-elections.

In the Federal Capital Territory, Basiru noted that the APC won five of six area council chairmanship positions and 45 out of 62 councillorship seats. He also mentioned political shifts among some leaders who previously defeated the APC, which he believes gives the party an advantage moving forward.

Basiru dismissed concerns that the opposition could pose a significant threat in 2027. He argued that the Labour Party’s support was mainly in the South-East and that the APC had performed well across the country during the last presidential election. He claimed the party now has the backing of four out of five governors in the South-East.

Despite the positive outlook, Basiru emphasized that the APC is not becoming complacent. He stated that the party is actively working to ensure success in the upcoming election by engaging with voters and building its membership base, which he claims is now at 12.8 million.

On allegations of financial inducements to attract politicians from opposition parties, Basiru denied these claims. He stated that the APC relies on discussions and persuasion rather than money to gain support. He also addressed concerns about investigations into opposition figures, insisting that due process should be followed.

Basiru concluded by urging all political parties to resolve their disputes through legal means and expressed confidence that the APC is prepared to compete in the 2027 elections based on its organization and record in government.
