Bus Fire on Kwara Expressway Leaves One Dead and Several Injured
One person died and several others were injured when a commercial bus caught fire on the Oko-Olowo Expressway in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Sunday. The bus, carrying 21 passengers, flipped over and ignited after the driver lost control due to a punctured tyre.
The accident occurred near Iye-Maja Junction. The Kwara State Fire Service received an emergency call and responded quickly, arriving at the scene around 6:35 PM. Firefighters worked to evacuate passengers and took those injured to the hospital.
According to the Fire Service, one person was confirmed dead at the scene. The Chief Fire Officer, Alabi Muhammed, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Muhammed emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance, especially for commercial drivers. He urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are safe to drive, particularly checking tyres, brakes, and electrical systems to prevent accidents.
He also encouraged the public to report emergencies promptly to the appropriate agencies. The Kwara State Fire Service remains dedicated to responding to emergencies and safeguarding lives and property in the area.
