DLA Candidate Calls for Real Empowerment Over Food Distribution in Ondo

Taiwo Ilawole, a candidate from the Democratic Leadership Alliance for the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in Ondo State, has spoken out against lawmakers who distribute foodstuffs as a form of empowerment. He believes that these food gifts do not address the deeper issues faced by the community.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Ilawole emphasized that while cash and food assistance might provide temporary relief, they are not enough to create lasting change. He stated, “Our people need support that builds skills, creates livelihoods, strengthens small businesses and helps families become self-reliant.”

Ilawole pointed out that despite significant funding for essential services, such as healthcare and education, many facilities in the constituency are still in poor condition. He noted that no serious road construction has taken place, which further hinders development.

If elected, Ilawole plans to advocate for practical initiatives like vocational training and support for local entrepreneurs. He aims to work with President Bola Tinubu’s administration to ensure that economic reforms benefit the constituents and to address issues like the coastal crisis in Aiyetoro.

He also expressed a commitment to promoting education opportunities, including awareness of federal student loan programs and scholarships. Ilawole believes that attracting foreign investment is crucial for job creation and improving local livelihoods in Ilaje and Ese-Odo.
