Execution Scheduled for Fort Hood Shooter Nidal Hasan by Firing Squad
The United States Army has set an execution date for former Army Major Nidal Hasan, who was found guilty of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that resulted in 13 deaths and 32 injuries. The execution is planned for December 3, 2026, at Fort Hood, Texas, at 1 PM Central Standard Time.
This decision follows an execution order signed by Acting Secretary of the Army Adam Telle on October 6, 2026. The order came after President Donald Trump approved Hasan’s death sentence on October 2, 2026.
According to the execution order, Hasan will be executed by firing squad, and the Commandant of the United States Disciplinary Barracks will oversee the execution. This marks a significant moment as Hasan would be the first member of the US military to be executed since 1961.
Hasan was convicted in 2013 on multiple counts of premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder for his attack at a medical facility on the Fort Hood base. During the shooting, he targeted soldiers preparing for deployment.
Military executions are uncommon in the United States and require approval from the President under military law. The last military execution occurred in 1961, while the last execution by firing squad was in 1945.
