FIFA Claims UEFA is Spreading Misinformation Over World Cup Documents

FIFA has accused UEFA, the governing body for European football, of running a misinformation campaign. This comes as UEFA seeks access to documents related to FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s controversial plan to sell parts of the World Cup.

In a court case in Florida, FIFA stated that UEFA’s actions are not just about obtaining documents but also aim to influence the upcoming FIFA presidential election next year. Infantino’s proposal, which sparked significant backlash in July, involved creating a commercial subsidiary to manage major events like the World Cup and the Club World Cup.

This plan would have allowed private investors to buy shares in a company set up under FIFA’s Forward Enterprise initiative. However, due to the negative response, FIFA quickly put the proposal on hold.

In its legal response, FIFA claimed that UEFA made “numerous false or misleading statements” about Infantino and the organization itself. One of the accusations is that UEFA suggested Infantino intended to profit personally from the Forward Enterprise proposal. The Associated Press has reached out to UEFA for a comment on these allegations.
