Goalkeeper Jesus Owono Grieves After Tenerife Striker’s Tragic Death

FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono is facing what he calls the “hardest days of my life” after the death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel. The 30-year-old player passed away on Tuesday due to injuries from a collision during a Spanish second division match on Monday.

Owono expressed his deep sorrow in a statement released by his club. He said, “I struggle to find the words and it is very difficult for me to process anything that has happened. I feel immense pain over the loss of Jesus. I think of him, of his family, and of all the people who loved him.”

In response to the tragic incident, Spanish police have opened an investigation. On Wednesday, Owono did not attend a voluntary training session where his teammates held a minute of silence.

The president of the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation, Venancio Tomas Micha, sent a letter of condolence to Owono, offering support during this difficult time. Micha acknowledged the pain Owono is experiencing as the “involuntary protagonist” of this tragic event.

Andorra defender Lautaro Spatz also showed his support for Owono on Instagram, stating that he is deeply affected by the incident and emphasizing that Owono would never intentionally harm anyone.

In light of De Miguel’s death, matches involving Tenerife and Andorra scheduled for the weekend have been postponed. The Spanish football federation has also postponed all Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina matches this week to honor De Miguel.

Tenerife plans to hold a tribute at their stadium on Saturday, and the club will attend De Miguel’s funeral in Navahermosa, Toledo. A minute of silence was observed before Champions League matches this week in his honor.
