I Will Vote Nigeria Launches Campaign to Install 111 Flags Across the Nation
The I Will Vote Nigeria Foundation has kicked off the FlagUp Nigeria campaign, which plans to install 111 Nigerian flags in all 36 states before the 2027 general elections. The campaign was launched on Saturday, September 19, 2026, starting with the first flag at Iwo Road-Challenge in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The foundation aims to promote national unity and remind citizens of their shared identity beyond political party lines. Olayemi Olamiju, the Convener of I Will Vote Nigeria, noted the growing prominence of political party flags as elections approach. He emphasized that while party flags are easily recognized, the national flag often gets overlooked.
Olamiju stated, “FlagUp Nigeria is a small effort to change that.” Each flag will be a permanent landmark in its community, not just a temporary campaign sign. The foundation plans to maintain the flags with a quarterly upkeep plan and encourages the public to suggest locations for new installations.
The campaign is also linked to broader civic engagement efforts, including a partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to help over 5,000 young Nigerians register for their Permanent Voter Cards.
Olamiju explained that the campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of unity among Nigerians. He urged people to remember their shared identity as citizens of Nigeria before considering political affiliations.
The foundation encourages Nigerians to display the national flag in schools, churches, mosques, and other community spaces. They also invite the public to follow their social media channels to suggest locations for future flag installations and to support the campaign financially.
The installation in Ibadan marks the start of this nationwide initiative, with plans to cover the remaining 35 states as the campaign progresses.
