Kaduna Christian Leaders Support Shehu Sani’s Senate Bid and Seek Monarchs’ Return

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, is supporting Senator Shehu Sani’s campaign for the 2027 Kaduna Central Senatorial seat. During a meeting on Thursday at Wusili Hotel in Sabo Tasha, Sani sought prayers and backing from 48 zonal leaders of the association.

At the meeting, the CAN chairman urged Sani to use his connection with Governor Uba Sani to help reinstate traditional rulers who were removed during the term of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. He believes that bringing back these leaders would help mend relations between the government and local communities, boosting support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.

The chairman also asked the governor to elevate the Sa Gbagyi traditional stool to first-class status, emphasizing that Chikun, which includes the state capital, deserves recognition. He expressed hope that this upgrade would reflect the importance of the Gbagyi traditional institution.

Additionally, the CAN leadership highlighted the lack of political representation for Chikun, noting that the area currently has no commissioner in the state cabinet. The chairman called for more political appointments for qualified locals, stating that Chikun has capable professionals ready to contribute to governance.

During the meeting, Sani encouraged pastors to rise above religious and ethnic biases when making political choices. He stressed the importance of unity and condemned selective empathy towards victims of violence, asserting that all lives matter regardless of their background.

Sani also criticized some political and religious leaders for their silence on security issues in the past and urged Nigerians to hold all leaders accountable for their actions. He called for active participation from religious leaders in politics, emphasizing that they should not leave the political space solely to politicians.

The meeting concluded with a special prayer led by Bishop Joe Yari, marking a significant engagement between the political candidate and the Christian community.
