Katie Zacharia Resigns as White House Press Secretary After Just Days in Office

Katie Zacharia has stepped down as White House Press Secretary just days after starting the job. Her departure comes after a series of mistakes that drew criticism and added distractions for President Donald Trump.

Zacharia’s exit was confirmed by a White House official following a report by Fox News. Trump hinted at her departure earlier, suggesting she reconsider her role. He said, “I said to her, ‘Honestly if I were you I’d reconsider.’”

Her brief time in the position was marked by a problematic first press briefing that lasted under 15 minutes. During this briefing, she struggled to present Trump’s accomplishments and only took three questions from reporters.

Adding to the controversy, it was revealed that Zacharia had falsely claimed to be a lawyer. Although she has a law degree, she admitted to failing the bar exam, which is required to practice law in the United States. This misrepresentation became a significant issue during her short tenure.

Despite attempts to clarify her situation in interviews, including one with Fox News, she faced skepticism. In one exchange, she was asked if she planned to retake the bar exam, to which she replied, “I did not.”

Her comments about China also sparked backlash. During an interview, she made a disparaging remark about the country, saying, “They don’t even have proper toilets.” This comment drew criticism from Chinese officials.

Trump is currently focused on supporting Republican candidates ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, as he faces declining poll numbers amid various challenges, including rising inflation and the ongoing war against Iran.
