Kogi Students Back Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Kogi State chapter of the Jagaba/Ododo Students’ Mandate 2027 has announced its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections. The group made this declaration on Tuesday in Lokoja during the launch of its Campus Ambassadors Initiative, which aims to connect students across 12 universities in the state.

Comrade Ibrahimnyass Dende, the coordinator of the group, explained that this initiative is designed to engage students on government policies and provide a space for discussing issues that affect their education and future. Dende noted that the group’s support for Tinubu is based on several government programs that benefit students and young Nigerians, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

NELFUND was created to help qualified Nigerian students pay for tuition and living expenses at approved colleges and vocational schools. As of May 2026, more than 1.5 million students have received over N282 billion from this fund, according to a statement from President Tinubu.

Dende also mentioned that the government’s investment in education infrastructure, healthcare, and youth programs influenced their decision. He highlighted the recent disbursement of N646.8 million in bursaries to over 20,000 Kogi students, with undergraduate students receiving N30,000 and medical students getting N75,000.

Other significant projects include improvements at the Confluence University of Science and Technology and Kogi State University, as well as the ongoing Kogi Cargo Airport project and the Lokoja International Market, which are expected to create jobs and boost the economy.
