Land Rover Overturns and Catches Fire on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos
A Land Rover Jeep caught fire after it overturned on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, heading towards Iyana-Oworo. This incident happened due to an alleged loss of steering control.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that no one was injured in the accident, although it led to significant traffic congestion in the area. LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that they received a distress call around 1:06 PM and quickly dispatched their emergency response team.
The team arrived at the scene by 1:30 PM and found the vehicle, which had the registration number EPE-743JM, fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters worked to contain the fire, ensuring it did not spread to nearby areas.
In addition to LASEMA, other agencies such as the Lagos State Ambulance Service, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, and the Nigeria Police Force assisted in managing the situation. They implemented traffic control measures to protect other drivers and prevent further accidents.
After the fire was extinguished, the burnt vehicle was removed from the road with the help of a private truck. This allowed traffic to resume normally along the busy bridge.
LASEMA reminded drivers to keep their vehicles in good condition, drive carefully, and follow road safety rules.
