LASEPA Celebrates 30 Years of Environmental Protection in Lagos

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) is celebrating its 30th anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the environment and managing pollution in Lagos State. This milestone was highlighted during a press conference by Dr. Omobolaji Tajudeen-Gaji, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Environmental Services.

Dr. Tajudeen-Gaji praised LASEPA for its role in reducing noise and air pollution, emphasizing the importance of residents and businesses actively following environmental rules. He urged them not to wait for enforcement actions to comply with regulations.

The General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, described the anniversary as a chance to reflect on the agency’s achievements and its impact on the quality of life for Lagos residents. He noted that LASEPA has made significant progress in strengthening environmental regulations and monitoring pollution over the past 30 years.

Dr. Ajayi mentioned that LASEPA has adapted to the challenges of rapid urban growth in Lagos. The agency has introduced an online portal for residents to report environmental issues and track their complaints, making the process easier and more efficient.

He also highlighted the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat noise pollution and other environmental violations, stating that enforcement is crucial for ensuring compliance with environmental standards. LASEPA has also contributed to Nigeria’s carbon market and climate initiatives.

Dr. Ajayi expressed gratitude to past administrations and staff for their support in achieving the agency’s goals. He concluded by reaffirming LASEPA’s dedication to enhancing environmental governance and promoting sustainable practices in Lagos State.
