Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain Launches Scholarship for Top Students

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has introduced plans for a new scholarship program aimed at outstanding first-class students. This announcement came during his 62nd birthday celebration and the Fifth Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Colloquium.

The Dovis Scholarship Scheme will require students to maintain high academic performance to keep receiving the award. If a student’s grades drop, they will lose the scholarship. The program emphasizes the importance of academic achievement.

The event focused on empowering young people through education, skills training, and entrepreneurship. Ikpeazu stressed that true empowerment goes beyond just giving money; it should help young people become self-sufficient and capable of running their own businesses.

Ikpeazu shared his experiences from his time as the governor of Abia State, where he implemented agricultural programs to help young people gain practical skills. These initiatives included providing resources like poultry pens and veterinary clinics, along with training from experts.

During the event, Professor John Uzoma Ihendinihu spoke about measuring the success of empowerment programs by the skills they create, rather than the material goods distributed. He called for a comprehensive approach to youth development that includes education and support for entrepreneurship.

Ikpeazu also expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his appointment and praised the President’s economic reforms, which he believes are improving Nigeria’s economy. The ambassador’s contributions to public service and youth development were acknowledged by attendees of the colloquium.
