Ogun PDP Deputy Candidate Confident INEC Will Resolve Omission of Governorship Candidate

Alhaja Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, the deputy governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, is optimistic that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will correct the omission of the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, from its official list. She shared her thoughts with journalists after Friday prayers in Abeokuta.

Sowunmi-Kolapo described the omission as unintentional and expressed trust in INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan. She believes he is committed to fair elections and will address the issue. She also received support from leaders of the Nawair-ud-deen Society during her visit.

In response to the excitement among members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding Adebutu’s absence from the list, Sowunmi-Kolapo urged the public not to see it as a setback for the PDP. She stated that the ruling party’s reaction shows their anxiety about the upcoming elections.

She praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Amupitan, calling him a respected professional who would not compromise his integrity. Sowunmi-Kolapo expressed confidence that INEC would fulfill its duties and correct any mistakes.

The PDP candidate emphasized that the party remains committed to its goals in Ogun State and will not be deterred by challenges. She highlighted the importance of using state resources for the benefit of residents and promised that a government led by Adebutu would focus on the welfare of citizens.

Earlier, community leaders called on members of the Muslim community to support Sowunmi-Kolapo and Adebutu. They expressed confidence in her ability to serve the people if elected.

INEC had recently published a list excluding Adebutu and his running mate from the candidates for the February 2027 governorship election. This raised concerns about the PDP’s participation in the election. Adebutu has called for calm, asserting that he followed all necessary steps for his candidacy.
