PDP’s Adedeji Doherty Claims Opposition Will Deliver Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ Agenda in Lagos Far Better Than the APC

A fresh political battle line has opened in Lagos as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful Adedeji Doherty claimed the opposition is better equipped than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to implement President Bola Tinubu’s flagship “Renewed Hope” agenda in the nation’s commercial capital.

Addressing reporters in Abuja, the PDP chieftain warned that the success of the federal government’s economic overhauls could be heavily undermined if Lagos fails to provide the local alignment needed to translate national policies into tangible benefits for everyday citizens.

Doherty argued that while the presidency continues to introduce various social and economic interventions, the current leadership in Lagos has not shown the necessary commitment to maximize their reach. He described the state as the vital engine room of the Nigerian economy, noting that any friction or lack of drive at the subnational level naturally dilutes the impact of federal relief programs on ordinary people.

The governorship aspirant took direct aim at the fiscal management of Lagos, pointing out that the state’s massive internal revenue has not visibly improved the daily quality of life for its residents. Despite its status as Africa’s premier megacity and financial hub, Doherty insisted that glaring structural gaps remain wide open across critical sectors.

“Lagos generates trillions of naira annually and remains the financial capital of Nigeria,” Doherty noted during his briefing. “Yet there are still major gaps in healthcare, transport, education, and power supply. These are areas where the state should provide stronger support to reinforce what the Federal Government is trying to achieve. If Lagos does not effectively integrate those programmes and drive them at the state level, the impact on the people will be significantly reduced.”

Laying out his party’s vision for the 2027 gubernatorial contest, Doherty detailed an alternative governance blueprint centered heavily on public utility reform. He identified stable and affordable electricity as the ultimate catalyst for grassroots economic growth, pledging that a PDP administration would build independent power systems to support thousands of struggling artisans, traders, and small business owners.

On the security front, Doherty dismissed the idea of isolating Lagos from its neighbors. He advocated for a coordinated, regional defense network with adjacent states, proposing the deployment of modern drone surveillance and advanced tracking technology to stop criminal networks from exploiting porous state boundaries.

Expressing absolute confidence ahead of the upcoming election cycle, the PDP leader insisted that the opposition will offer voters a much more competent, visionary, and transparent alternative—ultimately proving that delivering real hope to Lagosians requires a clean break from the ruling party’s long-standing monopoly.
