Plateau State Trains Officials on Using Artificial Intelligence for Better Governance

The Plateau State Government is encouraging public sector leaders to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) to boost productivity and improve services. This initiative aims to align local governance with global digital trends.

A training program titled “Closing the AI Gap for Executive Excellence” was organized to help officials learn how to use AI responsibly in public administration. Key government figures, including the Secretary to the State Government, Arch. Samuel Jatau, participated in the training.

Jatau, speaking on behalf of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, highlighted the importance of understanding AI for a government looking to digitize its operations. He described AI as a tool that can enhance efficiency but also carries risks if misused. He urged officials to learn how to use AI tools carefully and be cautious when sharing information online.

Gayi Timothy, the Permanent Secretary for Policy and General Services, noted that the training aims to bridge the gap between AI’s potential benefits and the government’s ability to use it effectively. He explained that AI could help streamline administrative tasks, analyze data, and improve planning, but it must be used with human oversight and ethical standards.

Joyce Ramnap, the Commissioner for Information, emphasized the need for AI in government communication. She stated that the technology could help improve how information is gathered and shared across Plateau State. Ramnap encouraged participants to utilize the training to enhance their data collection and communication skills.

This program is part of a broader effort to promote the responsible use of new technologies in government, aiming to create a more efficient and citizen-focused public service in Plateau State.
