Bayern Munich Coach Vincent Kompany Expected to Miss Weeks Due to Virus
Bayern Munich’s coach Vincent Kompany is in the hospital and will be out for weeks as he recovers from a virus. He collapsed during a training session on Friday and is currently in a stable condition, according to Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl.
At a press conference on Saturday, Eberl explained that doctors are still running tests to understand the full extent of Kompany’s health issues. He emphasized that the team is not rushing to set a timeline for his recovery, stating, “We need to all be clear on that.”
In Kompany’s absence, assistant coach Aaron Danks will lead the team during Sunday’s Bundesliga match against Freiburg. Danks mentioned that he briefly spoke with Kompany on Friday to check on his health, assuring him that there would be no discussions about football while he recovers.
Despite the situation, Bayern Munich is focused on the upcoming match. Eberl noted that performing well in the game would likely bring joy to Kompany and aid in his recovery. The team is currently at the top of the Bundesliga standings, just ahead of Freiburg.
Additionally, Germany’s captain Joshua Kimmich will also miss the match due to bereavement leave. Bayern’s next Champions League game is scheduled for November 3 in Madrid against Atletico.
