Police in Abuja Warn Against Unlicensed Vehicle Plates and Concealed Numbers

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command in Abuja has issued a warning to drivers and vehicle owners about the dangers of using vehicles without valid license plates. This includes cars with faded or hidden plate numbers, especially for those driving SUVs, unless they are high-ranking government officials.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the warning comes as a response to the growing number of such vehicles. These cars are often used by criminals to avoid being identified and caught by law enforcement.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, emphasized that the use of unlicensed vehicles presents serious security risks in the FCT. He stated that it can obstruct the ability of police to track and identify suspects effectively.

The police have made it clear that anyone found driving a vehicle that violates these laws will face arrest and prosecution. They have instructed all officers in the FCT to enhance enforcement efforts and ensure that vehicle licensing laws are followed strictly. Officers are also reminded to conduct their operations fairly and avoid using them for extortion.

The police encourage residents to assist in maintaining security by reporting any suspicious vehicles or activities to their local police stations or through emergency numbers provided by the Command.
