Political Spokespersons Clash Over Nigeria’s Economic Challenges Ahead of 2027 Elections
During a recent discussion on News Central’s Breakfast Central, Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of damaging the lives of Nigerians with its policies. This exchange comes as both parties prepare for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Abdullahi claimed that the current administration under President Bola Tinubu has worsened the economic and social conditions in Nigeria. He suggested that the government’s attempts to fix the economy were ineffective, comparing it to trying to repair a pothole but instead damaging the entire road. He emphasized that the government should acknowledge its failures and shift its approach.
According to Abdullahi, the impact of the APC’s policies is evident in the struggles of ordinary Nigerians. He criticized the ruling party for not clearly explaining its so-called Renewed Hope agenda, pointing out that Nigeria has the highest number of poor people in the world.
In response, Felix Morka, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, defended his party and blamed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for contributing to Nigeria’s economic issues. He accused Atiku of failing in leadership and claimed that his time in office led to economic decline.
Morka stated that the APC is now working to fix problems created by previous administrations, including Atiku’s. He alleged that Atiku’s government mismanaged $16 billion intended for electricity projects and left a poor legacy.
Both spokespeople’s remarks highlight the ongoing political tensions in Nigeria as parties prepare for the upcoming elections, with each side blaming the other for the country’s economic struggles.
