Portugal Coach Jorge Jesus Hasn’t Read Ronaldo’s Statement Yet
Portugal’s football coach, Jorge Jesus, said on Tuesday that he has not yet read Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent statement about their disagreement. Jesus mentioned he was watching a game involving the Portugal under-21 team instead.
In comments shared by football expert Fabrizio Romano, Jesus told reporters, “I didn’t read Cristiano’s statement, I was watching Portugal U21 game. I will now have time to read it.” His remarks came shortly after Ronaldo published a detailed account of the events leading to his departure from the national team’s training camp last week.
Ronaldo, who plays for Al Nassr, accused Jesus of not keeping his promises. He claimed that the coach had assured him around 30 minutes of playing time in a recent match against Norway but did not play him at all after he warmed up. Ronaldo also said that Jesus failed to make public clarifications that they had discussed earlier.
Ronaldo expressed regret for how he left the team and acknowledged that he could face disciplinary action. He also hinted at the possibility of returning to the national team in the future.
Despite the situation, Jesus, who took over as coach after the 2026 World Cup, stated that there is no major crisis within the team and that all players must follow the same rules. Under his leadership, Portugal has remained unbeaten in Nations League matches this autumn.
