Samson Adamu Appointed General Secretary of African Football Confederation

Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu has been appointed as the General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This announcement was made on Sunday through a statement on CAF’s website.

Adamu had been serving as the acting General Secretary since March, following the resignation of Veron Mosengo-Omba, who has since become president of the football federation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe noted that Adamu’s appointment came after a thorough recruitment process that included advertising the position and interviewing several candidates.

Adamu has been with CAF for eight years, starting as the Director of Competitions and later becoming the Director of Tournaments and Events. He has been instrumental in organizing major continental competitions, including the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations.

With a background in International Management, Law, and Humanities of Sport from the FIFA Master program, Adamu is expected to manage CAF’s daily operations and help implement its strategic goals.

He is the son of Amos Adamu, a former Director of Sports and FIFA Executive Committee member. His appointment continues a legacy at CAF, following a line of General Secretaries from Egypt’s Fahmy family.
