Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on reaching a significant milestone of 25 years in leadership. Tinubu made the announcement on October 7, 2026, marking the anniversary of Modi’s first assumption of office in 2001.
In his statement, Tinubu described Modi’s long tenure as a “rare achievement in any democracy.” He noted that Modi’s 25 years of service, which includes over 12 years as Chief Minister of Gujarat before becoming Prime Minister in 2014, reflects the trust the Indian people have in him.
Tinubu highlighted Modi’s contributions to India’s development, mentioning improvements in infrastructure, digital services, financial inclusion, and innovation. He praised Modi for leading with vision and dedication to progress.
Furthermore, Tinubu emphasized the transformation of Gujarat and India’s rise as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world under Modi’s leadership. He also reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with India, recalling Modi’s State Visit to Abuja in November 2024.
During that visit, Nigeria honored Modi with the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger. Tinubu noted that the visit boosted cooperation between the two nations in various sectors, including trade, energy, and education.
As he congratulated Modi, Tinubu expressed hope for continued friendship between Nigeria and India, wishing Modi good health and success in serving the Indian people.
