The Federal Capital Territory Council of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has instructed its members to report to work, rejecting a strike order from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). This announcement was made on Thursday.
The NLC had called for an indefinite strike starting on October 7, 2026, due to a disagreement involving the FCT Administration and the Nigeria Union of Teachers. However, the TUC stated that it was not involved in the discussions that led to this decision.
The TUC emphasized that it did not endorse the strike and that its members should carry on with their usual work activities. They urged members to report any pressure to join the strike.
“Members should not be intimidated or coerced into joining any action that the TUC has not sanctioned,” the TUC said. They also advised affiliate leaders to ignore any orders to form enforcement committees unless they came from TUC leadership.
While expressing concern for teachers and students affected by the dispute, the TUC encouraged dialogue and proper communication channels to resolve the issues at hand. They stressed the importance of ensuring that children’s education is not disrupted.
