“We Are Not a Launchpad for Your Ambitions” Dickson Blasts Overzealous Obi and Kwankwaso Fans, Warns Them Not to Ruin New Mega Party

The newly forged political alliance aiming to reshape Nigeria’s opposition landscape is already facing its first major internal boundary-setting exercise. Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the founder and national leader of the fresh Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has cautioned the overzealous supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso against running down the party’s image or treating it as a cheap vehicle for personal ambitions.

The warning comes on the heels of a massive political shake-up in Abuja, where both Obi and Kwankwaso formally dumped their previous platforms to receive their NDC membership cards at Dickson’s residence. While the entry of these two political heavyweights has injected immense momentum into the opposition’s strategy for the 2027 general elections, it has also brought along millions of fiercely loyal and sometimes volatile online and offline followers.

Addressing the influx of these massive follower bases, including the vocal “Obidient” movement and Kwankwaso’s “Kwankwasiyya” red-cap loyalists, the former Bayelsa State Governor emphasized that the NDC is a structured, value-driven, and independent political institution.

“The NDC is not a placeholder party built overnight just to wait for individual candidates to come and take over,” insiders familiar with the party’s stance noted. “It is a fully structured house that must be respected, not run down.”

Dickson’s firm stance highlights a growing concern within the new mega-party: that fanatical supporters might inadvertently fracture the coalition by attacking the party’s existing leadership or trying to bend the party rules solely to favor their preferred candidate.

While Dickson warmly described both Obi and Kwankwaso as “highly qualified, handsome suitors” capable of rescuing Nigeria, he made it clear that their integration must be seamless and respectful. The party leadership is pushing for a unified front where supporters focus their energy on building grassroots structures rather than engaging in internal mudslinging or disparaging the party’s identity on social media.

With the official party register submission deadline drawing close, the NDC is trying to balance its status as the country’s hottest new political movement while keeping its powerful new members from accidentally burning the house down before the 2027 race even begins.
