Work Resumes on Benin-Sapele Road After Rain Delays
Contractors have resumed work on the Benin-Sapele Road after heavy rainfall temporarily halted their progress. This return comes as a relief to motorists, traders, and residents who rely on the road.
On Thursday, workers and machinery returned to the sections of the road that had been left idle during the downpour. Governor Monday Okpebholo had previously stated that contractors would return to their projects once the rain stopped.
Benjamin Danjuma, the Foreman of the Earth Moving Section, explained that the rain made it difficult to continue work, particularly at the preparatory stage. He noted that they are currently working on the first level of the stone-base stage, which is crucial for the road’s foundation. After completing this level, they will proceed to the stabilisation stage, where they will use stone base and cement before laying the final concrete layer.
Residents have expressed their gratitude for the ongoing rehabilitation. Abdulmalik Usman, a local resident and frequent road user, praised the state government for the improvements. He remarked that the previous poor condition of the road caused significant difficulties for drivers.
Trader Joy Obosheya also shared her relief, stating that the bad road conditions had negatively impacted her business. With the contractor back on site, she feels it will now be easier for customers to reach her shop.
Driver Kingsley added that both motorists and pedestrians had faced challenges using the section of the road that is now being improved. He commended Governor Okpebholo for ensuring that the contractors returned to work.
