20-Year-Old Computer Engineering Student Found Dead in Off-Campus Apartment; School Community in Shock as Police Probe Suspected Suicide
The quiet Emure-Ile community in Owo was thrown into mourning this week after a 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) was discovered dead in his off-campus residence. The student, identified as Audi Emmanuel, was a promising scholar in the Computer Engineering department before his life came to a tragic end in what authorities are treating as a case of suicide.
The grim discovery was made after neighbors along the Awolowo Road axis noticed an unsettling smell coming from Emmanuel’s apartment. Upon forced entry into the room, they found his body hanging. Witnesses at the scene noted that the body was already significantly swollen, indicating that he had likely passed away some time before being found.
The news has sent shockwaves through the polytechnic, leaving fellow students and faculty in deep distress as they grapple with the sudden loss. While the motive behind the act remains unknown, the Ondo State Police Command has stepped in to provide clarity.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, announced that a team of detectives had processed the scene and recovered the body for preservation and autopsy. “Preliminary observations suggest this is a case of suicide, but we are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the full circumstances,” Jimoh said. He further urged the public and the student body to seek help and speak out during times of emotional crisis, emphasizing that support systems are available for those in need.
As the school community navigates this difficult period, the police have promised to release further updates once the forensic results are finalized. For now, a heavy silence hangs over the RUGIPO “trenches” as friends and family mourn the untimely exit of the young engineer.
