Rayo Vallecano Match Abandoned After Fan Protests Against Club President
Rayo Vallecano’s match against Athletic Bilbao was abandoned on Saturday after fans protested by throwing objects onto the field. The game took place at Vallecas Stadium, where fans expressed their anger towards club president Raul Martin Presa.
The incident occurred in the 13th minute when supporters threw paper airplanes, rubber balls, and other items onto the pitch. The referee paused the game and sent players to the dressing rooms. When the teams returned, the protests continued, leading to the match being called off with the score still at 0-0.
Fans have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with how the club is managed, particularly regarding the condition of the stadium and training facilities. This was Rayo’s first home game of the La Liga season, having previously played at Leganes’s Butarque Stadium due to urgent repairs needed for safety issues at Vallecas.
The state of Vallecas Stadium has been a concern, with reports indicating it has not been well maintained during Rayo’s lease. The regional government in Madrid is currently looking to end this lease due to these ongoing issues.
