Ondo State Takes Action to Clean Igbokoda River After Air Force Crash

Following the crash of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has ordered the fumigation of the Igbokoda River. This decision comes after residents reported a strong odor from the river, which is a key water source for the community.

The governor directed the ministries of environment and health to carry out the fumigation to prevent any potential disease outbreaks. If the river is found to be heavily polluted, the Ilaje Local Government will arrange for water tankers to supply clean drinking water to residents.

In addition to the fumigation, the governor instructed local authorities to distribute nose masks and health kits to protect residents from health risks. Aiyedatiwa emphasized the state government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force in its ongoing recovery efforts and ensuring the safety of the local community.

The NAF ATR-42 aircraft, which had 25 people on board, crashed on October 5, 2026, while traveling from Benin City to Lagos. Search and rescue operations were quickly launched, but the passengers and crew have not yet been found.

The Nigerian Air Force has established a 12-member board to investigate the crash. This board will look into the causes of the accident and suggest ways to prevent similar incidents in the future. It includes experts in various fields related to aviation and safety.
