Wike Defends Rainbow Coalition, Criticizes Political Rivals in Abuja

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, spoke out against critics of the Rainbow Coalition during an event in Abuja on Monday. He claimed that those who deny the coalition’s existence are unable to unite even their own families and communities.

Wike made these comments while commissioning the Gwagwalada Civic Centre and engaging with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gwagwalada Area Council. He emphasized that the coalition, which includes members from both parties, was created to promote unity and development in the Federal Capital Territory.

He criticized what he called “greedy and selfish politicians” who do not understand the concept of unity. Wike challenged these critics to explain why former political rivals could not come together for common goals. He noted that the recent developments in Gwagwalada reflect a shift away from confrontational politics, highlighting the need for cooperation in the FCT.

Wike urged residents to avoid repeating mistakes made during the 2023 general elections and to seek credible representatives in the National Assembly. He expressed support for former senator Philip Aduda and other candidates backed by the coalition, stressing the importance of representatives being accessible to their constituents.

Additionally, Wike endorsed the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, encouraging residents to transform their support into votes in the upcoming 2027 elections. He called on the community to mobilize and demonstrate their strength at the polls.

During the gathering, FCT APC Chairman Ishaku Tanko Yamawo described the event as historic, noting Wike’s role in uniting leaders who previously had opposing views. The FCT PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed Dogara, praised Wike for reviving a long-abandoned project in Gwagwalada, while local leaders acknowledged the importance of continuity in governance.
