APC Group Supports Karimi as Kogi West Candidate Despite Court Ruling

The Win With Tinubu (WWT) Grassroots Mobilisation Programme in Kogi State is standing by Senator Sunday Steve Karimi as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial District in the upcoming 2027 elections. This comes despite a recent ruling from a Federal High Court that nullified his candidacy.

According to WWT, the results of the APC senatorial primary held on May 18, 2026, were reviewed and confirmed by the party’s appeal committee. After this review, Karimi’s name was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and published as the official candidate.

WWT stated that Karimi’s legal team is currently working on an appeal to challenge the court’s decision. The group expressed its belief that the court’s ruling should not override the internal election results of the party, asserting that Karimi was duly elected by APC members in Kogi West.

In a statement, Sani Philips, the State Programme Coordinator for WWT, described the court ruling as a distraction and an attempt to undermine the votes cast for Karimi during the primaries. The group also raised concerns about the legitimacy of the court’s judgment, claiming that the judge did not follow established legal practices.

WWT reiterated that Karimi remains the officially nominated candidate until the appellate court makes a decision. They also pointed out that there was controversy surrounding the primary, with claims that another candidate, Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro, was incorrectly declared the winner despite not participating.

In light of the ongoing legal situation, WWT called on APC supporters in Kogi State to remain calm and allow the court to resolve the matter. The group plans to continue its grassroots mobilization efforts to support President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that their activities will not be halted by the legal challenges.
